Habitat and Care
Chinchillas require a habitat that is well ventilated and has multiple levels for them to climb about. The habitat should be at least 4x3x3. As an advanced level animal, chinchillas need to be kept in cooler conditions and a quiet setting. To help keep their coat and skin healthy, Chinchillas should never get wet but instead be offered a weekly dust bath with commercially available dust specifically for them. Chews that are safe should be provided at all times to help keep their teeth from over growing. Spot clean their cage daily and deep clean once a week. Hay, food and clean water should be available at all times.
